According to an ancient Chinese manuscript, hazelnuts are one of the five sacred nourishments God bestowed to human beings. Hazelnuts have been known to the world for nearly 5000 years. Traditional remedies use pounded hazelnuts mixed with pepper, it can help relief cough. They can be pounded and mixed into honey to provide quick energy.
Hazelnuts are rich in vitamin E, which helps in the formation of red blood cells, muscles and other tissues, and are a good source of thiamine, enhancing energy and promoting normal appetite. They also contain vitamin B6, which aids protein metabolism and absorption. They are also a fairly good source of dietary fibre, which helps the movement of the digestive tract and iron, essential for red blood cell function and enzyme activity. They are rich in calcium and potassium helping to regulate the body's fluid balance and building strong bones and teeth.
Although hazelnuts are relatively high in fat, they contain no cholesterol.

It is very nourishing for weak children as it is easily digestible. It is also useful for women going through menopause or who are pregnant.
