Organic legumes (beans, peas and lentils) are edible seeds and pods grown from certain plants. They are not only high in protein, but are also rich sources of nutrients like potassium, calcium, iron and several B-vitamins.
Beans and peas are also an amazing alternative to red meat, as they don't contain as much saturated fat as meat, but are a low-cost, healthy and substantial alternative. Legumes contain a high amount of dietary fibre to help with bowel movement. They are a good source of carbohydrates and have a low glycemic index (GI), making you feel fuller for a longer period of time. They are also affordable and easy to cook, and can be a simple substitute for meat for vegans and vegetarians.
Add them to salads, stews, stir frys, chilli, soups for a substantial, nutritious meal. Use as a substitute for meat, such as lentil or vegetarian patties.
