Kitchen tools are essential items in anyone’s kitchen. Designed to help any cook for preparation of their meals, kitchen tools are used for a variety of reasons - cutting, chopping, grinding, seasoning, wrapping and other forms of food preparation. Tools can cut down preparation times resulting in less amount of time needed to prepare a healthy meal.
At Nature’s Glory, we are often inspired by Japanese food and recipes for its versatility and the use of fresh produce to create nutritious, colourful meals. Some of the kitchen tools we recommend can benefit those looking to make their own sushi and season their food with spices and sauces:
Making Sushi
Making sushi at home is easy and simple using the following tools. All you need is a sushi mat, rice paddle and chopsticks, along with fresh ingredients to prepare this healthy favourite. Use your choice of desired fillings like seafood and raw vegetables wrapped with rice and seaweed to create a nourishing and healthy meal.
Seasoning
Creating flavourful meals with healthy spices and ingredients can make or break your dish. By using a ceramic mill, you can ensure that no rusting or metallic odours can influence the flavour of your dish. Instead of metallic blades, ceramic blades are resistant to more coarse ingredients like rock salt and are water-resistant, increasing the lifespan and efficacy of the mill. Use the ceramic mill to grind salt, pepper, spices and even sesame.
Suribachi
Suribachi, which translates to “grinding bowl” in Japanese, is a traditional bowl inlaid with ridges to help grind seeds, herbs and nuts. The grooved surface acts like a grater while the surikogi pestle is made out of wood to avoid excessive wear and tear of the bowl. Use both the bowl and a pestle together to create sauces, pastes and marinades for Asian cooking, for example grinding sesame seeds to release the oils and flavour to make sauces.
