Organic Psyllium Husk — Nature's Glory

Psyllium husk (in Chinese: 洋车前子壳) is the outer coating of the Plantago ovata seed. Psyllium Husk is the cleaned dried seed coat (epidermis) which has been separated from the seeds.

Long recognised as an excellent way to increase dietary fibre, with nearly 14 times the fibre content of oat bran; studies have shown psyllium to help in lowering of cholesterol, and aid in constipation, prevent diarrhoea, diverticulitis and other intestinal problems. When Psyllium husk comes in contact with water, it swells and forms a gelatinous mass that stimulates the transport of waste through the intestinal tract, keeping the waste matter/faeces hydrated and soft.

For constipation, take 2 teaspoons of psyllium husk with 1 teaspoon of Nature's glory Ume paste, stir in a large glass of water. For new users, start with half to 1 tsp first with at least 6-8 glass of water per day.

FAQs

What is psyllium husk good for?

Psyllium husk is a soluble fibre used as a bulk-forming laxative. It forms a gel and absorbs water in your gut to ease constipation, firm up loose stools, and lower bad cholesterol. It also helps manage blood sugar and support a feeling of fullness.

How much psyllium husk should I take a day?

When introducing psyllium husk, it is generally recommended to start with a smaller amount (½ to 1 teaspoon) once a day to allow the body to adjust. The amount can be increased gradually over one to two weeks, to about two teaspoons.

What’s the best time to take psyllium husk?

The best time to take psyllium husk depends on your health goal. Take it 10 to 30 minutes before meals to manage blood sugar or reduce appetite, with meals to lower cholesterol, or in the evening for predictable morning bowel regularity.

How quickly does psyllium husk work?

Most people notice softer stools or bowel relief within 12 to 72 hours (1 to 3 days) of taking psyllium husk. However, for broader health goals like lowering cholesterol or managing blood sugar, it requires 4 to 8 weeks of consistent daily use.

Is psyllium husk a prebiotic?

Yes, psyllium husk acts as a mild prebiotic. Although it is mostly resistant to rapid breakdown in the gut, your beneficial intestinal bacteria slowly ferment a portion of its fibres to produce health-boosting short-chain fatty acids.

Chia seeds or psyllium husk — which is better?

Neither is exactly “better”. Psyllium husk and chia seeds serve very different nutritional and digestive purposes. Psyllium husk is a concentrated, pure soluble fibre ideal for treating constipation, lowering cholesterol, and stabilising blood sugar. Organic chia seeds are a whole-food superfood providing a mix of fibres, protein, omega-3 fats, and minerals.

Can I take psyllium husk every day?

Yes, you can take psyllium husk daily. It is a safe, gentle, and effective soluble fibre supplement for regular digestion and heart health. Start with a small dose of about 5 grams per day. Always mix it with a full glass of water. If you’re on medication, pregnant, or managing a health condition, check with your doctor first.
